Statement of Significance

The place is of aesthetic significance because it is a recognised landmark in the City of Perth. The place is a good and rare example of a two-storey residence in the Victorian Italianate style.
The place is a good intact example of a substantial boarding house, which operated from 1898 to the 1930s and demonstrates what was considered an acceptable commercial venture or small business operation for single or widowed women in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The place represents the development of substantial buildings north of the City, as a result of the 1890s gold boom.
The place is of historic significance for association with Joseph Clarkson; Pearling Pioneer.
The place is valued by the Greek Orthodox Community and congregation of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helene, as it was purchased by the congregation and used as a rectory from 1952 until 1985, and then as a Greek community language school in the late 1960s.

Physical Description
