The place is of aesthetic significance because it is a recognised landmark in the City of Perth. The place is a good and rare example of a two-storey residence in the Victorian Italianate style. The place is a good intact example of a substantial boarding house, which operated from 1898 to the 1930s and demonstrates what was considered an acceptable commercial venture or small business operation for single or widowed women in the 19th and 20th centuries. The place represents the development of substantial buildings north of the City, as a result of the 1890s gold boom. The place is of historic significance for association with Joseph Clarkson; Pearling Pioneer. The place is valued by the Greek Orthodox Community and congregation of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helene, as it was purchased by the congregation and used as a rectory from 1952 until 1985, and then as a Greek community language school in the late 1960s.
Two storey residential building with tower. Constructed in two tone Flemish bond brick work with corrugated iron roof. Designed in Victorian Italianate style with double hung sash windows and decorative moulded stucco work.
The house is associated with Joseph C. Clarkson, pioneer of the pearling industry and is one of a few surviving examples of a pre-gold rush town house in the City of Perth. Construction 1898. [COP File 1.5/115]. Northbridge is an inner suburban area, named because it is just north of Perth across the railway bridge. It was approved as a suburb name in 1982.
Medium level of integrity. Medium level of authenticity as it appears from visual inspection to be substantially intact.
