The site represents the establishment of a police presence, education, and recreation in Narembeen and demonstrates ways of life no longer practiced. It also demonstrates the evolution of the Education facilities in Narembeen since before the establishment of the town.
After the hotel opened in the new private town of Narembeen, it became increasingly obvious that a police presence was required in town as conflict was evident between the railway workers and the predominantly Macedonian and Italian clearers in the district. After an eventful opening to the Narembeen Hall (now the Lesser Hall), in 1923, a policeman was stationed in Narembeen. Constable Foord was the first Narembeen policeman, and he boarded with Mrs Logan. In 1925 the police complex was developed with the lock up, stables and horse yards. With the phasing out of horses, the horse paddock area was used for school buildings in the 1950s. The complete site was later transferred to the Education Department when the new Police Complex opened in Longhurst St in 1970.
