The place represents the development of West Perth as an affluent residential area in Perth in the late 1890s and early 1900s. The place is rare as a surviving intact stable in the City of Perth. The place demonstrates a way of life of an era prior to the development of motorized transport.
Large single storey stable with medium pitched roof and half timbered and pebble dash gable ends. Largely as originally constructed although original openings currently boarded up. Building includes stables, storage for carriage and a small cottage.
Stable originally associated with a large residence, Malia House, in West Perth. The stables were built around 1900 at the rear of the property which fronted Colin Street. The house which was on the property would have been built around 1900 as well. At this time Mayfair Street was known as May Street. In the 1960s many larger houses in West Perth were converted for office use or demolished for purpose built commercial buildings. The house was demolished and the Aston Clinic constructed in the late twentieth century. The clinic was subsequently demolished and the area was developed by Homeswest. The stables are one of very few remaining outbuildings in the City of Perth.
Low level of integrity.
Medium level of authenticity as it is largely as originally constructed with detail intact.
