Statement of Significance

This two storey limestone and terra cotta tile residence in the
Federation Queen Anne style, has cultural significance
because:
it has historical significance because of its
association with the Greenway, Allnutt and Forbes
families;
it is a fine and relatively rare example of a fine two
storey Federation Queen Anne style with a vely high
level of integrity;
it is part of a cultural group and a townscape area;
it is highly valued as it strongly contributes to the
community's sense of place.

Physical Description

The place is a handsome, well proportioned, two storey
residence of the Federation Queen Anne style, which is an
important cultural and townscape element

History

The property was another owned originally by A G Harvey,
civil servant. The residence was built and owned by local
builder George Greenway. The residencewas then purchased
by Lea Allnut, a wealthy rural industrialist, c.1920. He and
his family continued to be part of the Peppermint Grove
community for the next half a century. Subsequently the
place was purchased and restored by the Forbes family. E L

historical significance

Integrity/Authenticity

The place is an accomplished example of subdued Queen
Anne design, with good proportions, thoughtful construction
details and high construction standards. These qualitieswere
respected in the restoration. The place retains a high level of
integrity.
Thoughtful conservation/refurbishment by the R & E Forbes.
Restorations from earlier conversion to flats.
