The place is rare as a wattle and daub Victorian Georgian Homestead in Western Australia.

The place is significant for its association with the Mead Family, as they owned the property, built the homestead and were pioneers for the area.

The place is valued by the Local community as evidenced by its inclusion in the Municipal Inventory for the Shire of Serpentine – Jarrahdale.

Physical Description

Homestead

□ Small four roomed cottage / homestead.

□ High pitched broken back roof with spreading verandah.

□ It is set high on a hill with view to the coastal plain.

□ There is a small dam near the homestead and a shearing shed further up the hill.

□ Made from Wattle and Daub

□ Appears to be unused and in poor condition.

History

This place is associated with Henry Mead, who with his wife Dorothy came to Perth in 1842 and were pioneers in the Serpentine area. Henry Mead was born in England in 1820 and married Dorothy (1821- 1879). Henry Mead was a well known carpenter and later police officer and owned of land at Byford and Whitby Falls. Their house which he constructed was called ‘Lake View’ and would have been constructed some time prior to the1880s as at this time they were living in Cardup.
