Significant as one of the earliest homesteads and in its association with the Mead family who established several properties in the district.
Small four-roomed cottage reminiscent of Victorian Georgian style, with high-pitched broken-back roof and spreading veranda. The cottage is set high on a hill with views through the valley to the coastal plain. Small dam next to the cottage and shearing shed up the hill from the house.
Associated with Henry Mead, who with his wife Dorothy, came to Perth in 1842 and were
pioneers in the Serpentine region. ‘Lake View’ would have been constructed some time before the 1880s.
In the 1920s May Lydia Gordin (granddaughter of Henry and Lydia Mead), married Ebenezer Barge and resided at Lake View.
