House, 4 Coventry Road, is a modest single storey timber framed house dating from before 1940s. The place has been much modified and has limited aesthetic value and does not contribution to a historic streetscape or the character of the heritage area.
House, 4 Coventry Parade is a single storey timber and iron cottage with a brick extension to the front setback area. The front verandah has been removed for the addition. The original section of the house has a hipped corrugated iron with no eaves and the addition has a skillion roof.
It is not known when the house at 4 Coventry Parade was built. A 1939 diagram shows 4 Coventry Parade as being a small timber house with full length front and rear verandahs. In 1939 there were only four houses on the southern side of Coventry Parade, numbered sequentially. Aerial photographs show that the character of Coventry Parade became more industrial in the Post War Era and by 1989 only 4 Coventry Parade remained.
This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Brown: "Positively contributing to the built environment"). The photograph shows a timber framed cottage with an enclosed front verandah, asbestos cement sheet wall cladding and a hipped roof clad in painted corrugated galvanised iron. In 2000 it was included in the first Municipal Heritage Inventory and in 2008 it was added to the Heritage List.
In 2025 the place was assessed as part of the Annual Update of the Heritage List and Local Heritage Survey and it was found to have little heritage significance due to the extent of change that had occurred to the house. On 13 August 2025 Fremantle Council resolved to remove 4 Coventry Parade from the Heritage List and change the Management Category from Level 3 to Level 4 Historic Record Only.
