These buildings may be altered or extended in a manner which recognises and retains some original features or which may be demolished, but the replacement building should recognise by its position the adjoining residence and precinct. The owner to provide an archival record for any building demolished under this category and the Shire to provide a plaque for inclusion in the adjoining footpath to recognise the cultural significance of the property.

Statement of Significance

These two storeyed rendered brick and tile residences, in the
InterWar Mediterranean cum Modernist style, has cultural
significancebecause:
- it is an example of a doctor-architect relationship
providing a notable work of its time;
- it is an accomplished work which marked a design
departure for Rodney Alsop, prior to his premature death;
- it is a sophisticated synthesis of two of the prevailing
design idioms of the day, undertaken with a high level of
workmanship and which retain a high level of integrity;
- it is part of a cultural group and a townscape area.

Physical Description

Molyneux states "the most modernistic of Alsop's houses in
Perth but also disciplined in a 'formal' Mediterranean
manner."

History

The conjunction of doctor client and modernist architect had
produced notable architectural results in Vienna and
California during the first three decades of this century. This
place provides an interesting parallel. Alsop was the
architect for the University of Western Australia's Winthrop
Hall and Administration complex. Some historical
significance.

Integrity/Authenticity

A sophisticated work which demonstrates competence in the
prevailingMediterranean and Modernist design idioms of the
day. The construction of the residences has been undertaken
with a high level of workmanship. The place retains a high
level of integrity.
