Statement of Significance

These buildings have high local historic significance for their connection with the commercial development of the district since its inception, over 85 years. Further the buildings are a good representation of small country stores of that era. Given their scale, construction materials and form with verandahs extending over the footpath, the buildings make a high contribution to the streetscape value of the main street.

Physical Description

Two timber framed weather board clad buildings containing three shops. Each building has a hipped corrugated iron roof which extends over the footpath to form a verandah with timber supporting posts. The northern most shop has large display windows adjoining a recessed single central entry door. The central shop has smaller windows, with weatherboard infill below and central single entrance door. The southern most shop has small windows, and central entrance door. The northern most shop appears to have most of its original fittings in place and is lined with decorative pressed metal.

History

Built by a Mr Ryan as a general store in 1910, it has been owned by the Duffy family since 1912. It was last used as a subagency in 1990. (Source: History of Three Springs, p. 5 & Mrs. E. M. Duffy)
