25542 Workers' Homes Board and War Service Homes Precinct, Fremantle
House 81 Holland Street is a single storey masonry and tile house constructed as a simple variation of the Inter-War Californian Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are painted rendered brick. The roof is hipped and double gabled and tile clad. The projecting front entry porch sits under a gable roof and has simple rendered brick detailing to the top of the piers. There are double hung windows to the front façade. The place has a low timber picket front boundary fence and gate.
This section of Holland Street was developed by the Workers’ Home Board in the 1930s.
This Workers Homes Board house on Lot WM 1072 was built in the 1936/37 rate period. The rate books list the occupant, John Conway, as occupying the premises from 29 March 1937. Post office directories list him as the main occupant until at least 1949 (when post office directory records cease).
Aerial photos show that the house has changed very little since construction.
