Statement of Significance

Significant architecturally and historically as one of the few remaining hotels with verandahs and stable facilities intact and by comparison with the Grand Hotel in Northam illustrating the contrast between and historically ornamented design approach to one deriving decorative detail from elaboration of common construction.

Physical Description

A large two storied brick and corrugated iron roofed hotel, originally residential but now licensed as a tavern, it was opened in January 1907 by P.J. McCarthy then changed hands an became the Club Hotel in 1910. It retains its original Italianate stucco chimneys and parapet details and the original decorated timber verandah. The hotel enfolds a typical courtyard at the rear and an interesting stable building at the rear is in good condition. It competed with the Grand as a Railway workers pub.
