Statement of Significance

Hollowgate Farm is significant as the first farm in Bodallin. It produced the first wheat to be delivered to the Bodallin Siding for shipment. It is also a reminder of the days when bricks were locally made. The bricks were made next to the Bodallin School as this locality had a good water supply. Mrs Stella Penton married H.Penton and lived as a new bride in a railway cottage before her house was completed in 1922.

Physical Description

Hollowgate Farmhouse is a three-bedroom home built from local bricks with a corrugated iron roof. It had a verandah under a broken backed roof on two sides of the house. The verandah was partially enclosed by lattice work. The rear of the building was modified when a corrugated iron wall was replaced with bricks imported from Clackline (near Northam). Today the house remains almost unchanged from its original structure, except for a fence that divides the domestic property from the rest of the farm.
