This place is an example of an early building in the area and has historic associations with the Embersons' and Henry Walkenden, notable figures in the Bayswater community.
Early stone house with verandahs all round covered by a pyramid hipped roof of corrugated metal with vents at the peaks, supported on full height timber pots. The corners of the walls are emphasised with ashlar stone quoins and the windows have moulded stone sills and cement frame surrounds. The parallel front door has top and side lights and is flanked by a double hung wooden sash window on each side. A tall brick chimney with cement mouldings penetrates the roof and a free standing brick chimney and fireplace adjoins one corner of the verandah.
When this subdivided property was first listed in the rate books in 1916, it was owned by Catherine Emberson, and the house was occupied by the Embersons and later by George Ardagh MLC. It could be of a much earlier origin, however, and this raises the interesting possibility that it might once have been occupied by Henry Walkenden, brickmaker, whose address was listed as Slade Street in the days before the land was subdivided. The strange configuration of Wright Crescent would support the possibility that it was surveyed specifically to pass this house.
