Statement of Significance

An important early residence in a prominent position along Railway Street.

Physical Description

A masonry cottage with small rectangular projecting bays either side of the front entrance door. This cottage sits on a prominent corner location and has a return verandah to both street frontages. The verandah is constructed of turned timber posts with later timber bracketing. The detail to the gable ends of the projecting bays is missing and there are small finials. It retains a painted brick chimney with a rendered moulded cap. It is possible that this building was originally constructed by the same builder as the row at 10-16 Railway Street, and may have originally had a bull-nose verandah. The outline of this house is shown on the 1903 Water Supply Map for Cottesloe undertaken by the Department of Public Works.
