Statement of Significance

The place represents the lifeblood of the country and an impetus to settlement and sustained survival in rural Australia. The site represents a significant event in the history of Cadoux.

History

Built during the Great Depression in the 1930s when the Government provided "sustenance" for workers on public works projects throughout the state. The tank was constructed in 1960 after Cadoux was connected to scheme water in 1959. During the 1979 (2 June) earthquake the water tank moved a considerable distance, slopping water over the edge as it moved on the rubber ring base. A smaller tank subsequently replaced the original tank.
