Statement of Significance

The 'Parsonage' has considerable historic significance given its association with the early land settlement schemes developed by the Midland Railway Company. Further it is only one of two remaining homesteads in the district established prior to World War I under this scheme.(the other is 'Raywood'). Further, the property has been associated with the Bothe family for over 75 years.

Physical Description

A timber framed house clad with weather-board with a steeply pitched roof . Dropped verandah roof covers metre wide verandahs. Verandah posts are timber with decorative bracings. Verandahs are enclosed to the SW corner. Access is via french doors to north and west side. Windows are double hung timber framed with four large panes. Painted cream with red to door and window surrounds. Internally, rooms are timber lined. Adjacent is a gazebo with a hexagonal pyramidal corrugated iron roof supported on railway iron posts with brush walls in part.

History

Probably the best example in the district of a Midland Railway settlement house built before WWI. The farms dating from that settlement averaged 500 acres, houses had 4 rooms and were completely jarrah lined, no internal bath or toilet facilities. Rev. Middleton McDonald may have been the first owner and employed C & E Long. C & H Bothe purchased the property in 1919 or 1920 and lived in the house until 1961. Additional history of the Midland Railway settlements is given under the property 'Raywood'.
