Statement of Significance

The Road Board Secretary's house has historic significance with its association with the civic activity of the shire and being an early dwelling in the townsite.

Physical Description

A simple, red brick and corrugated iron roof dwelling. New aluminium windows.

History

The first Road Board Secretary was Mr Donald Ross Moore, who was officially appointed on 13th April 1923. In 1946 it was decided to erect suitable accommcdation for the board secretaries, and an amount of l,100pds was set aside for this purpose. However, this was for a timber house, but when it was decided to erect a brick house a futher 200pds was sought. Mr S J Wightman was the first Secretary to live in the house, paying a rent of 25s per week.
