The place has value for its biodiversity and aesthetics. Residence has little cultural heritage significance.
Hazelmere Lakes consist of a southern and northern lake which are remainders of a larger wetland system that would have existed in the area prior to clearing and land development. Only a few areas of finging vegetation exist on the northern lake. The southern lake is largely encircled by swamp paperbark and some flooded gum. The system supports a variety of water birds, waders and water-fowl. The lakes hold water for most of the year, although water quality in the lakes has declined in recent years in response to nutrient inputs from within the catchment.
Hazelmere is part of the Woodbridge land grant given to Captain James Stirling in 1829. When a Guildford auctioneer bought the land in 1883, he subdivided the property into smaller lots, and one was named Hazelmere after the English suburb of Haslemere in Guildford, Surrey
