Statement of Significance

Sandalwood was the earliest tree to be cut in the district. Tracks left by the sandalwood cutters have been followed by prospectors since the 1880s. After the Dulyalbin area was settled, the tracks still provided access for farmers to remote parts of their farms. The track connected five important sources of water, a most essential commodity for travellers in a harsh country.

Physical Description

This track through the bush crosses the Lapsley property "Windimere" in the Dulyalbin Locality south of Moorine Rock. The track is evident between one rocky area, Kangaroo Rock and Dulyalbin Rock. Both rocky areas were sources of water for the wood carters and others who used the Sandalwood Track. Parts of the track are still visible, but where it passes through bushland. it is slowly being revegetated and returned to nature. There is still a wooden post, with a metal arrow, indicating the direction and location of water.
