Statement of Significance

One of a number of homes in this street of heritage value. Part of the streetscape of a heritage precinct.

Physical Description

"Cumberland House" previously "Sorrento", This two-storey house built before 1909 has been extensively restored. It is partially hidden behind a high stuccoed brick wall. It has turned verandah posts at the upper level and square section on the lower. The balusters and frieze are square section. Modern stained glass windows can be seen on the upper floor. The gabled roof is of iron /zincalume with a minimal gable frieze. The upper windows in the foreward projecting section are double-hung with small side lights.

History

H.F. Harvey Surgeon of St Georges Terrace had this as his seaside home in 1909 [see no 17]. In 1914 Ada Bullock lived there and it was a boarding house/Guest House. In 1918 Lily Hedges rented it.
