A charming visual accent in John Street and a rare example in Cottesloe of the combined house and shop from the interwar years. The old kit home which is seen in many old Cottesloe photographs Is an even greater rarity.
"Arcadia", "John Street Cafe", A house with an attached shop that employs minor 'moderne' elements. The building is of masonry construction with tall masonry chimneys topped by clay pots. The house and shop are separately roofed in a manner that indicates two different construction periods. The shop is small in comparison to the house. An older wooden structure, reputedly the original kit house which was erected on the block, sits in the back of the yard.
Erected c 1903 the wooden cottage was lived in at the time by a Miss Tilley possibly of Tilley and Muggeridge. The Edwardian house was built c 1915 and the interwar shop c 1930s. Fashionable again with cafe society in the 1980s and 1990s.
