The Avenue of London Plane Trees on Mounts Bay Road were originally planted in 1910 and constitute the line of trees at the foot of Kings Park situated in Mounts Bay Garden, Mounts Bay Road. These trees are in excellent condition for the species and attained outstanding aesthetic quality. The line of trees contributes strongly to the streetscape of Mounts Bay Road where they edge the curved road and contrast strongly with the open river side of the road. The trees also conceal the small park at the base of King's Park and help to isolate the traffic and thus form a significant contribution to the landscape.
The City Planner and the Controller of Parks and Gardens jointly report that in 1939 an avenue of 182 Plane Trees were planted on Mounts Bay Road and supplementary planting occurred in 1955. The avenue is approximately 2.7 kilometers long, partly on one side and partly on both sides of the street. The Plane Trees extend from Barrack Street at the east to the former Swan Brewery at the west. A portion of this avenue, those trees at Kennedy's Fountain Park opposite the Swan Brewery site, was listed by the National Trust in the Register of Significant Trees.
