Statement of Significance

The place has associations with the development of tennis and other sporting facilities in Yerecoin, and the provision of essential services to the Yerecoin community.

History

There were two tennis clubs in Yerecoin in addition to 'Seaton Ross'. The first one was on the south side of the Yerecoin Hall. During the 1930s, the clubhouse was made of bush timber, and there was a bough shed, and three courts, the third being built in 1948/50 before the hall was built. The tennis club reloaded to the 'top of the hill' in ??, and four courts were built. In 1995, the club raised funds to build a new club house, and in 1996/97, basketball and netball lines were drawn to make use of the newly installed lights. In 1997 the new tennis club rooms were construded in a different location, while this site has a new Fire Station building.
