The place is significant for the following values: Aesthetic Value: The building has aesthetic significance as an excellent example of a single storey Federation Free Classical Style Pub. Historic Value: The building has historic significance as the first pub in the town built during its boom period, reflecting the prosperity of the town.
A double fronted single storey hotel with strong Federation free classical style expressed through the elegant stucco parapet with clanical balusters, pediments and cornices and skillion front verandah with central gable portico. Original photographs show the verandah roof was bowed with decorative brackets, timber posts and moulds. The front elevation has been painted but was previously strongly decorated with face red brick and rendered stucco boards arching over the openings.
The original hotel was owned by Ellen Coonan and was built of weatherboard and iron. It only survived two years 1903-05 when it was burnt down. The new hotel was built on the same site and opened on 28 June 1905. The first publican was Mr A. E Skipworth.
