Statement of Significance

The site has historic value as it is associated with the railways which have been a major impact on the development of Toodyay since 1888. The site has research value as it has potential to contain subsurface archaeological remains.

Physical Description

The site is now the new medical centre.

History

The original rail head siding had turntables to half turn the engines. Located near the Catholic Convent when the railway came from Clackline to Toodyay in 1888, there was never a station, although there was a water tank and stand, goods shed and later a loco shed at the siding. While the townspeople thought the siding was too far out of town they also objected to the resumption of properties for the railway line. When the line was extended to Bolgart in 1908/09 the railway station was moved to this site. The stockyards were located where the existing bowling club is situated. The station building remained unused for many years and eventually burnt down.
