The residence of Cecil Piesse is historically significant in that it was part of the Piesse properties, built specifically by Frederick H Piesse for his son. Their generous father gave the sons many opportunities in life, and although the other house Kulal - belonging to Fred -expanded as he succeeded, Cecil was not so successful and hence the few alterations and additions which were made to the house. Its internal detailing has much architectural / aesthetic significance.
Federation Bungalow with three-quarter return verandah. The residence is constructed of brick with a corrugated iron roof. The gables were half timbered and roughcast rendered, the front one has been replaced. Windows are double hung casements with sunhoods over the exposed facades. The original timber floor of the verandah has been removed and replaced with a concrete slab. The original leadlight windows above the entry are in good condition. The rear verandah has been enclosed. The house is currently being renovated. Damp coursing has been done adding a rendered cream lower part to the external walls. The house has been rewired, some ceilings and cornices are in the process of being replaced, not to original but to fit in with the era of the house. One internal wall and chimney has been removed in the kitchen allowing for more practical living space. A bedroom is being converted into a bathroom and other renovations are yet to take place. The maids bells are still in place (but not working). There is a replacement picket fence and cottage garden with lawns.
This was one of two originally identical houses that Frederick H Piesse had built for his sons Fred and Cecil, this one being for Cecil. Cecil died by drowning while gold prospecting at Marvel Loch.
