The Waddy Forest Telephone Exchange and Store has local historic significance given that it operated for over 25 years providing communications and necessary supplies to the Waddy Forest early settlers.
This building is located on the north side of the Coorow-Latham road and west of the Waddy Forest Hall. It is a small rectangular timber framed corrugated iron building with a pitched gable roof that extends to cover two verandahs to the north and south. The corrugated iron is fixed horizontally. There is a double entry door to south beside a sliding timber window opening. The verandahs both north and south are partially collapsed with some iron sheets removed. Internally, there is a timber floor with pressed metal ceilings and a skylight to the north east.
The telephone exchange was originally situated in Malcolm Patton's house and operated by his wife. Opened at this site 1926, the store closed in 1940 but the manual exchange operated until 16/06/1950. East of the store was a small garage operated in the 1930'3 by Bill de Boer, some concrete footings and the remains of a pit are evident. (Source: Alison Doley).
