The playgroup building has high local significance for it's former post office use and it's association with the early settlement of the district.
Small building on corner site with basic rectangular plan under hipped roof with lean-to extensions to form front verandah and additional accommodation to the rear. The building provides an illustration of the lifestyle and type of accommodation for public utilities from the period just prior to the turn of the century.
The Mundaring Playgroup building was previously the first Post Office in Mundaring and operated from July 1898 to late 1925 in the weatherboard and iron building on the corner of Jacoby Street and Hodgson Street. As well as Posts and telegraphs, from sometime after 1912, the Post Office, in common with many others, operated as a Commonwealth Savings bank Agency.
Integrity: Low- although largely intact. Modifications: Adapted for residential and playgroup use.
