Statement of Significance

Relates to the settlement of the Swan Valley and the history of Henley Brook.

Physical Description

Brick and iron cottage with steeply pitched roof, stretcher bond brickwork, limewash to walls, original doors and windows and a rendered chimney. Carved valance to verandah. Probably original farm labourers quarters for Henley Park Stage building adjacent. Building has undergone substantial restoration and additions.

History

In 1895 H. J. Saunders, chief engineer for Midland Railway, purchased Henley Park Estate and built a new homestead on the property. He allowed the original house built for Col. Irwin to fall into ruin.
