The place is significant as a continuous operation as general store since the early 1900s, and associations with Wilfred Roberts.
Original building and outbuildings remain on the site. The garage on the south side was constructed in 1939 a storeroom in 1949, and renovations to the shop front in 1956.
In 1897, Anthony Glyn 'Dugite' Layman, son of George Layman of Wonnerup House, returned from success in the goldfields. He bought a number of lots in Coolingup and planned a series of shops along from the post office. This one of them??? In 1925, Wilfred Roberts bought and managed the store. Roberts delivered to customers in the region, and was a Goldsborough Mort agent. He was a member of many community service organisations, and worked for the progress of the town & district. In 1946, he purchased 'Springfield', and also became a member of the Capel Roads Board, and acted as Vice Chairman for a number of years till his death in 1960. The store which had been taken over by his son Gordon Roberts, and was sold in 1970. Then Berrymans took over and then several changes in ownership took place, but it is still known as 'Roberts' store.
