The Nedlands Golf Club has historic. social and representative cultural heritage value. The Club has a long association will) Nedlands community and represents one of the many sporting facilities supplied on Mclvista Reserve, People associated with the club include Cyril Dudley. a Ncdlands Councillor and foundation President of the Golf Club and Sir Norbert Keenan. Local Member of Parliament in uie 1930s and Patron of the club. Rare aspects of tho Golf Club ore the facilities which included a swimming pool and the Nedlands Masters and 1ntcmational Gol f Tournament - unusual for its presence on a nine hole golf course.
This is basically a 1930s built domestic style building. It bas various additions that have been attached to the two storey building. The building Is of brick find rnc construction. Part of the brickwork hns been painted. The golf course side of thc building has two siorey enclosed viewing rooms. at ground find upper levels. and an cxtcrnnl swimming pool. The windows are a mixture of steel. aluminium lind timber.
The foundation of the Nedlands Golf Club is attributed to the dedication and energy of Cyril Dudley. Dudley was passionate about setting tip a golf club on the 28 hectare Mclvista Reserve. To ensure the smooth transition of the golf club from reserve to manicured greens. Dudley joined the Nedlands Road Board in 1932. 17.2 hectares was transferred to the Ncdlnnds Golf Club on a 99 year lease. Funds from the Nedlands Road Board were also sought to aid the project, Cyril Dudley was elected the first President of the Nedlands OolfClub and continued in this role from 1932-1950 and then later in 1955 until 1962. Dudley was made a life member of the club in 1933. He was joined in this elite group by his wife Pans), in 1970 when she was also mode a life member in recognition of her services to the club. A prominent figure connected to the Club was Sir Norbert Keenan. the patron of the club and State Member of Parliament for Nedlands. Nedlands GoLf Course was built USing crosscut saws, axes and mattocks to clear the trees from the fairways Fences were necessary to keep out straying stock, The Club house was designed by architects Eales. Cohen and Bennett and built by R A Gamble or a cost of £2.500. It was officially opened in October, 1933. Unusual features of the Golf Club's facillrios include the nine bole design, the swimming pool that was created from II concrete water Lank and the residence that protrudes onto tho course at the 8th Fairway. The limitations of 3 nine hole Golf Course did not prevent the setting up of the Ncdlands Masters tournament in 1947. Aller II lapse II was reintroduced in 1961 and oyer the years has attracted some world class golfers
