The place is of aesthetic significance as an example of a commercial building constructed during the Inter-War period. The external façade at first floor level contributes to the Wellington Street streetscape.
Two storey commercial building with vertical proportions to facade simple circular arched pediment to parapet. Loss of original detail at ground floor level.
The street number first appeared in the Post Office Directory in 1921, and it is presumed that the building was probably constructed around this time. Building developed as a result, of commercial expansion in the Inter-War period. From 1921 George Walsh, a cooper, established a business which made casks for hops and ginger beer and for pickling. In 1947 the agricultural distributer Tropical Traders & Patersons Ltd was located at the place. Newspaper advertisements during the 1940s and 1950s showed agricultural products and machinery. The business also had offices in the South West. The building was later converted for office use.
High level of integrity. Medium level of authenticity as there is loss of original detail at ground floor level but mostly intact above.
