Statement of Significance

The building is aesthetically significant as a simple example of the Federation Free Classical and contributes to the streetscape of the main commercial street of Northam.

Physical Description

Located alongside the Shamrock Hotel, the single storey Hailsham Building has a symmetrical frontage. The rendered front features a central door flanked by windows, all with arched detailing. Corresponding with the windows are pediments within the parapet, behinds which is a stepped and curved parapet. The visible side wall is face red brick in Colonial bond.

History

Hailsham building was originally constructed as the professional offices for an accountant. RB James (Digger) former Mayor of Northam (1949-55), occupied the offices for many years. It has been used by various government departments and other businesses over the years.
