Statement of Significance

The place has historic value for its association with the CWA which has made a valuable contribution to the region for many years. Physical Description

Single storey timber framed structure with weatherboard cladding and fibro panelling. Windows in three sections comprising two sashes and a fixed central pane. The centrally placed front entrance has a separate section of canopy, supported on timber columns with concrete ramped access. Hipped colorbond roof which continues down over the porch at a shallower angle. Destroyed by January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire.

History

The Country Women's Association was first formed in NSW in 1922 to improve conditions for women and children in rural and remote areas. Each state followed suit with the CWA of WA founded in 1924. The Yarloop CWA was formed on 12 August 1938 and in 1940 the Yarloop CWA were active in the community organising fundraising events for the AIF. The Yarloop CWA purchased this block of land in 1944 and construction of the hall, by builder Syd Adams, commenced in 1952. This CWA hall is located on freehold land which is relatively unusual as many CWA Halls are located on rail reserve land. The CWA Hall is currently being used as a meeting place for the CWA on a monthly basis and is hired out to other local groups within the area. This building was destroyed in the January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire. The chimney was left standing however has since been deemed structurally unsound and was subsequently removed.
