The place has representative value as a church school in the goldfields. The building is a conspicuous place and a focus of community life contributing to the local community's sense of place.
A single-storey stone building with a hipped roof and designed in the Federation Georgian style
The building has associations with St Mary's Church on Brookman Street, and the establishment of a Catholic education facility in Kalgoorlie. "The Roman Catholics started their own schools, one of which, St Mary's Convent School, was staffed by Irish nuns, one of whom, Sister Mary Hanlon, fresh out of Ireland, caught typhoid fever and died within a few weeks of here arrival in Kalgoorlie. The service of women such as Sister Hanlon in nursing as well as in education was of enormous importance in those early years" (Webb, 1993: 553).
