History

Reserve 857 at Nokanena Spring was opened for selection in August 1900. Chronology Entries 1839 Whilst trekking back to the Swan River Settlement, Grey named two hills Mt Victoria and Mt Albert; the Hutt River after William Hutt Esq. M.P. and brother of the Governor; and the Bowes and Buller Rivers. 1848 An exploration party lead by A. C. Gregory found lead ore on the banks of the Murchison River and good pastoral country in the hinterland of Champion Bay, at the Hutt and Bowes Rivers. 1964 The bridge over Nokanena Brook was opened by David Brand.
