The place is a fine example of a Federation Queen Anne style residence exhibiting a picturesque asymmetrical form, a bull-nosed verandah, and a dominant gabled hip roof. The place was built for the Pascoe family and was named Merrifield House for the family of Mrs. Pascoe.
A modest example of a Queen anne style residence, this brick and iron dwelling is set well back from the street boundary with a large expanse of lawn to the front and tall shrubs concealing most of the front elevation. The building has an asymmetrical form that is characterised by a projecting gable bay to the front façade and a timber-framed bull-nosed verandah that extends across two sides. It has a steeply-pitched gabled hip roof, which combined with a pair of face-brick chimneys, creates a dominant roof form. The house has timber-framed windows and a timber-framed and panelled front door with stained glass sidelights and fanlight. The verandah is timber-framed, with a timber floor and slender square posts.
The house was built for the Pascoe family, operators of a bakery in Kelmscott who resided here from the time of the construction in 1913, until 1993, when the property was sold. The house was named for the family of Mrs. Pascoe.
