This mine is one of a few mines within the Ranford Formation where the distinctive striped zebra rock can be obtained. Other mines are situated at Remote Island in Lake Argyle (Mining Tenement 80/1135), Tenement 80/279 close to the old Duncan Highway, and the stone is also found in undeclared fossicking areas in the Northern Territory adjacent to the WA border. The rare material is promoted and valued by the tourist industry. The Cave Bar (refer Place No 11) in Kununurra features large quantities of the rock.
The mining lease coincides with a ridge of snappy gums. The buildings are located close to the centre of the lease. A shaft has been dug and the zebra rock is obtained by chipping away at the layers of the shaft wall.
