The place has aesthetic and historic significance as an example of a stone cottage in central Fremantle constructed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and representing the typical living conditions of the townspeople at that period. Limestone wall on the street boundary is historically and aesthetically significant.
Single storey painted stone and corrugated iron gabled hipped roof house (currently divided into two residences). The roof has three prominent chimneys with corbelling and extends over the veranda, which wraps the corner facade of the building. There is metal lacework between the chamfered timber posts and timber balustrades (probably not original).
Holdsworth Street was originally named Doonan Street; the change of name occurred c. 1901. Joseph Doonan was the Comptroller of the Prison and J. Doonan & Sons were also storekeepers in Adelaide Street. Lionel Holdsworth owned a large amount of land in the area and after his death in 1901 the street name was changed. House, 13 Holdsworth Street is on a triangular block, with House, 15 Holdsworth Street adjacent and Knutsford Street on the other boundary. Limestone wall excavated. Additions 1978. This place received a Conservation Incentives Award in 1990. Currently (2013), residential.
