Statement of Significance

This place has historic and social significance. The Mt Jackson Cemetery is the burial place for about seven people. Two headstones remain, while others have been broken over the last few years. One grave is that of Patrick Byrth, who died in 1914, some years after the mine closed. A small grave is reported to be about one mile northwest of the cemeteiy on Clampton Road. This grave is that of a little girl (3 or 4 yrs old) from the Cousin family. She was killed after being run over at a picnic. She was buried on the spot. Until about 1960 people used to drive up in a car about once a year and place flowers on the grave. They never spoke to anyone, so no one knows who they were or whose grave it was.

Physical Description

The cemetery is an open space near Jackson Homestead and is surrounded by a ringlock and steel posts.
