The place contributes to the streetscape and townscape of Kukerin.
□ Rectangular design with emphasis on verticality. □ Unpainted pale brick walls □ High gable wall with strong vertical brick pattern and vertically proportioned windowpanes. □ Steep pitch grey/blue tiled roof. □ Entrance shaded by a cantilevered porch roof □ Side windows recessed with strong buttress type columns □ Window boxes at the base of each recess.
Within the Wheatbelt region there are 24 parish properties belonging to the Uniting Church in Australia. Ten of these places have been assessed thought the heritage Inventory of Uniting Church and it was determined that these 10 places have state heritage significance. The ages of these 10 churches range from 38 to 95 years old. Of these 10 churches there are three that were built between 1958 and 1962, these being the Uniting churches at Kukerin, Wickepin and Harrismtih. All of these churches were constructed of brick with iron or tile roofs. The Shire of Dumbleyung Municipal Inventory states: ‘For many years the Methodists and Presbyterians worshipped together under the Methodist banner. No minister resided in the Kukerin district so services were led by visiting people. However, in 1946 a building funds was established by the Methodist Church Trust and managed by treasurer Alice Mildwaters. At a meeting chaired by Rev. Harry Lucas it was agreed to proceed with the plan to build a Methodist Church in Kukerin. Fundraising continued with the donation of 250 acres of wheat and 50 acres of oasts from the farm of Tom Gard.’ ‘The Uniting Church was designed by architect Anthony Brand and built by Chatfield Industries on the site of an old tennis court. The Methodist Church was opened and dedicated by the Rev. J Vaughan in 1958. A celebratory dinner was held that night in the Kukerin Pioneer Memorial Hall along with the showing of a film on the life of John Wesley.’
