Barrabup Mill Town Site is significant to the history of the timber industry in the south west of Western Australia and to the history of settlement of the region.
The Barrabup Strongroom (associated with the now demolished/relocated Barrabup Mill) site consists of a single concrete 3m x 2.5m x 2.5m steel reinforced structure, located about 6m off the road side, amidst an overgrown site of bush and young saplings. There is a single door opening, (the door has been removed), and the exposed concrete and steel work are in poor condition. The townsite includes foundation remnants, remains of a cricket pitch and tennis court, and the Workman and Barrabup Pools. Earthworks associated with the railway built between the mill and Cambray siding are clearly visible along the walking track.
The Barrabup Mill was built by WA Jarrah Saw Mills Company in 1908. In 1913 ownership was transferred to Kauri Timber Company. The timber town was abandoned around 1922, and in 1925 it was dismantled and transferred to the present mill site in Nannup.
