Historic and aesthetic significance as a group of residential units close to the University of WA probably dating from the post World War II period.
Two storey block of units comprising four units. Rendered Brick and tile construction with timber joinery and distinctive vertical glazed panel on the facade. Detailing suggests that the building was constructed circa 1940-50s.
The 'Hollywood' town planning precinct is in the suburb of Nedlands. The land was originally under the control of the Claremont Road Board, until annexed by Subiaco in 1907. This changed the local government boundary, and gained Subiaco some of the Crawley foreshore. The stretch of land became known as the Nedlands Corridor. Cyril Dudley surveyed and subdivided the land in the 1920s, and gave the area its name from Hollywood, California, at a time when film stars and the entertainment scene were of particular interest (although the name was not formally accepted until after WWI when Hollywood Hospital was named). Residential development occurred from 1930 to 1950. Along with single storey brick and tile homes, several complexes of flats were established, most along Winthrop Avenue, which is the local government boundary with the City of Perth. The commercial centre along Hampden Road is the local government boundary with the City of Nedlands.
