Statement of Significance

Refer to entry for Hilton Central Area for Statement of Significance Kindergarten Building (Kulunga) has some socialand historic value as the pre-primary centre for the residents of Hilton since the mid-1950s.

Physical Description

Kindergarten Building, Kulunga is included in the precinct listing for Hilton Central Area Precinct. See that entry for more detailed information on the development of Hilton Park. Kindergarten Building, Kulunga Hilton Park Infants School was built in 1955/56. The school was built by the Public Works Department. The school is located between the Infant Health Centre and the Hilton Park Primary School. The building is a single storey rendered brick and tile building with an asymmetrical façade, set in grassed and treed grounds. It is adjacent to the Primary School.

History

Kindergarten Building, Kulunga is included in the precinct listing for Hilton Central Area Precinct. See that entry for more detailed information on the development of Hilton Park. Hilton Park Infants School was completed in 1955/56 when the last of nine classrooms was built. The school was built by the Public Works Department on behalf of the Education Department and cost over £10,000. The school was located between the Infant Health Centre (completed in the same year) and the Hilton Park Primary School. In the early 1990s, the Education Department released plans to relocate the pre-primary to the Hilton Primary School site. These plans were cancelled after a concerted campaign by parents and friends against the move in 1994/95.
