Statement of Significance

The hall is valued by the community for social associations. Halls such as this were the social focus for small rural communities, being used for a variety of purposes.

Physical Description

The hall is built on the eastern side of Great Southern Highway well back from the road alignment. With the exception of the former Barton Hotel directly opposite on the western side of the highway, the building is in an isolated location; in a clearing within s. bush setting. The tuilding is approached from the Highway via an unsealed road. The building is rectangular in plan with an entrance porch at the western end. The building is simply constructed of timber framing, raised on timber stumps, and clad with cgi with metal corner battens. Openings were probably double-hung sashes and now contain louvres. The building extends northwards across the length of the north elevation and is covered with a lean-to roof. A brick chimney breast is at the eastern end. Timber stumps appear to have been replaced and the roof has been recovered.

History

The successful tenderers for the agricultural hall were the Zimmer Bros, at an amount of £180. A grand opening ceremony was held on 10 October 1906. It was used for church services, agricultural and other meetings and amusements, while during the day it was used as a school.1 The hall is used by Piesseville Social Club and by the Tennis Club.
