Nannup Hotel is significant to the history if the settlement and development of the town of Nannup. It is a good example of a country hotel constructed during the period of State expansion in the early 1900s and extended in the 1920s when the timber industry was expanding with the opening of the Nannup Timber Mill in 1925.
The original Blackwood Inn was constructed circa 1900 and extended in 1909. (Gilbert; 1973) The two storey section of the Nannup Hotel was constructed in 1924 by the then publican Tommy German. The building was modernised in 1965. The single storey hotel element has a simple, stepped and parapeted, projecting gabled frontage with vent and rough-cast finish over a separately articulated skillion verandah, casement windows with small upper panes and a northern entrance with small paned side and fan-lights. This portion of the hotel also features short battened timber eaves and a corbelled brick chimney. The building contains a significant amount of original detail internally including the jarrah staircase and balustrade and pressed metal ceiling linings.
Land on which the Nannup Hotel currently stands was purchased by George Higgins in 1900.
