The sites of the pearl camps have high historic significance for their connection with the development of the pearling industry in Shark Bay.
SHARK BAY PEARL CAMPS The Maritime Archeology Department of the Western Australian Maritime Museum has identified 22 pearl camp sites. [The attached map is not intended to show the precise location of the camps.] PERON PENINSULA 1. Old Canning Factory [See Place No. 30] 2. Middle Bluff 3. Monkey Mia 4. Cape Rose 5. Cattle Wells 6. Gregory Rocks 7. Tardies 8. Cape Leseuer 9. Middle Camp 10. Mick's Camp USELESS INLET 11 . Williamia 12. Cosy Comer 13. Mangrove Creek 14. Clough's Bar 15. Top Sandhill 16. Wellba 17. Thomas's BELEFIN PRONG 18. Chacha Narhgooda 19. White Bay DIRK HARTOG ISLAND 20. Sunday Island Bay 21. Cross's Camp 22. Tumbledown The Streering Committee identified a further two pearling camp sites on Dirk Hartog Island - Notch Point and Olsons Camp at Notch Point.
