• The place has historic value for its association with the development of the district. The construction of the bridge in 1861 at this site enabled easier movement of goods and people. • The place has research and aesthetic value as a good example of a timber bridge built in 1929.
Timber bridge construction supported on timber poles sunk into the river bed. Brunswick Road Bridge (1929, 1963 & 1987) is 9.2 metres wide (excluding footway) and spans the Brunswick River. Designed by E.W. Godfrey it is a four metal girder road bridge on timber piles and was constructed by E. S. Woods for the Public Works Department in 1929. In 1963 the bridge was widened and in 1987 the jarrah bridge deck was overlaid with concrete. An original wooden bridge was constructed on Ommanney Road in 1862.
The first timber bridge at Brunswick was constructed in 1861 near Melville Park homestead, west of the current bridge. Its construction twenty years after the first farm 'Alverstoke' was established in the area made a significant difference to the settlers in the region. The current bridge was constructed in 1929 and received a concrete overlay in 2005.
