According to oral traditions the area around the tree was used by some of the Aboriginal people as an important meeting area for the local tribe, long before white man came into the area. This boab tree is now encapsulated by the caravan park. Historically and socially it has played a role as a meeting place through time for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and is known to the Aboriginal people as Gundicuy meeting place. Its scientific and heritage value is its great age and the fact that it is also one of the largest boab trees in the area.
It is one of the largest boab trees in the area, being 17 metres in circumference. The cl500 year old boab tree was once the hub of Wyndham social gatherings. It was the location of the original rifle range, golf course and cricket pitch. The cameleers and mounted police used to camp in the vicinity of the tree.
